Geography is in every element of our lives, helping us to understand the “why of where.” Geographers examine relationships between people and places, society and nature, and the causes and consequences of environmental change. Geography answers questions spanning the local to the global, in the past, present, and future.
Geography is an interdisciplinary field. It is one of the few disciplines that brings together the physical and social sciences. The study of geography equips you with knowledge and skills to understand and address critical problems facing the world today. Our classes deal with the pressing issues of our time, from climate change and water quality to racism, sexism, and economic inequality.
Our Geography department is the principal location of training in GIS and Remote Sensing at Indiana University Bloomington. We offer a variety of programs designed to meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate students in this vital technical field.
