We are a tight-knit and welcoming community of students and scholars. Our graduate students are treated as peers and collaborate regularly on publications and grants. We are committed to helping students prepare for their future. Our department has an excellent record of job placement both in and out of the academy.

Our graduate students are engaged in service, leadership, teaching, and research in the department and the university. They coordinate visits with leading geography scholars for the Geography in Practice Symposium, have opportunities to teach their own courses, and are encouraged to present original research at national and international conferences. Our graduate students also serve as mentors to undergraduates, providing guidance and support.
