Our department is fortunate to have many alumni and friends who have contributed generously to create awards that support our students. These are awarded to outstanding undergraduates at the annual Departmental Awards Banquet held each spring.
Scholarships & Awards
William R. Black Memorial Leadership Fellowship
Award is given annually to the Geography department graduate student who best exemplifies service to the discipline, community and the department. Student must be in good standing. You must apply for this award.
John Odland Research Fund Award
Award is given annually to develop, enhance, or expand the research activity of a Geography graduate student. A formal application, including a proposal and budget, is required.
Alumni Associate Instructor Award
Given annually to a graduate student who excels in teaching. It is awarded by faculty nomination.
Departmental Graduate Student Awards
Award is given annually to two graduate students who demonstrate outstanding performance in our graduate programs. It is awarded by faculty nomination.
Climatology Award
This award is presented to an undergraduate or graduate geography student for the completion of an outstanding research paper exploring a topic in climatology. One award is offered each year and a committee determines the recipient.
Indiana Award
This award is presented to an undergraduate or graduate geography student for the completion of an outstanding research paper. One award is offered each year and a committee determines the recipient.
IU + College award opportunities
IU and the College of Arts and Sciences offers additional fellowship and award opportunities. Our graduate students have been particularly successful at securing two College of Arts and Sciences awards: the Dissertation Completion Fellowship and the Dissertation Research Fellowship.
