Are you interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Geography? Our Geography 4+1 College Pathway is an integrated program that allows you to obtain your master’s degree in a shorter amount of time. In the 4+1 Pathway, you will take graduate courses in your senior year, followed by one additional year as a graduate student at IU to earn your M.A or M.S. in Geography.

Our Geography 4+1 Pathway program is especially suited to students who would like to deepen their practical skills in GIS and/or other research methods in preparation for careers in the public, private or non-profit sector, or who seek additional training in geographic theory and research as preparation for graduate school applications. Our M.A./M.S. requirements are sufficiently flexible to allow you to create programs that meet your career and academic goals. 

Any student with an undergraduate major within the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington can pursue a master’s degree in Geography through our 4+1 Pathway. For example, major in Anthropology and get your M.A. in Geography. Or, major in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and get your M.S. in Geography.
