Dr. John Baeten’s Reconstructing Bloomington Project is now one of the featured Sanborn GIS projects on the Library of Congress’s Sanborn site.
Sanborn maps were created across the United States for fire insurance purposes in the 19th and 20th centuries. Dr. Baeten and his students in his Social and Historical GIS course used these maps to recreate what Bloomington, Indiana looked like in 1907.
